What is Chiropractic? Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy, or an “adjustment” is a procedure that relieves restrictions of the joints by working to relax the muscles, ligaments, and tendons of the body. Regular Chiropractic care is beneficial because it restores normal motion/function to the joints. This promotes health, reduces the risk of injury, and may slow the progression of degeneration due to biomechanical faults. It can also reduce feelings of fatigue and promote the state of well-being. Chiropractic addresses many conditions.
Chiropractors treat the body as a whole, using a holistic approach. This means working with the patient’s own body to try to heal from within to achieve optimal function. Over time, poor posture, injury, and aging can alter the biomechanical function of the body. This can result in degeneration of the joints (arthritis) and formation of scar tissue. These changes can cause pain and decreased flexibility, which limits normal joint motion. The spinal column, which houses the spinal cord, (Central Nervous System/CNS) regulates all of the functions of the body. Restrictions in joint motion, especially the spine, can result in irritation or inflammation. This can inhibit the flow of information between the CNS and the rest of the body. When this occurs, optimal function of the body becomes compromised. |
